- Intex AQUA i5 Review
Sunday, 4 August 2013
Indian manufacturer, Intex, recently launched the Aqua i-5 smartphone, which comes with a quad core processor for an attractive price tag. The phone is touted to face some tough competition from similarly priced quad core phones from other domestic manufacturers like Micromax and Lava. In this post, we shall be reviewing the i-5 based on the specs of the phone, and give you an idea about where it stands in comparison to its competitors.

CAMERA AND INTERNAL STORAGE
The Intex Aqua i-5 comes with a surprisingly decent specifications when it is the cameras which is the concern. The phone has a 12MP rear camera which comes with support for autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging and other popular features. Intex have done well to include a 2MP front camera, when most other manufacturers are shipping phones with either VGA or 1MP cameras. The 2MP camera should prove to be a handful for video calls and even casual self portraits.
On the other hand, the 12MP rear again shouldn’t let you down. The Micromax Canvas HD comes with an 8MP rear camera, so the i-5 beats it by quite a margin when the picture resolution is concerned. Since the camera comes with LED flash, low-light photography shouldn’t be a problem too.
PROCESSOR AND BATTERY
The i-5 comes with the ever-so-popular MT6589 from Mediatek. Just to brush up the specs, the CPU on this chipset is a 1.2GHz quad core based on the Cortex A7, so you can expect decent battery life as well. The processor is a proven performer, and among the best (if not the best) processor in the budget segment.
To complement the powerful processor will be 1GB of RAM, which means multi-tasking will not be a problem unless you are a very heavy user.
The phone will be powered by a 2000mAh battery, which although is not the best on today’s phones, is not bad either. You can expect a day of runtime with the battery.
DISPLAY SIZE AND TYPE
The Intex Aqua i-5 comes with a 5 inch screen which packs a qHD resolution of 960×540 pixels. Although there are many phones with a better resolution than this phone, you can’t expect more on this price point. The display should be good enough for casual use, however heavy multimedia users and gamers might complain a bit due to the relatively low pixel density on the device.
One plus point regarding the screen is the IPS technology being used, which will let users view the screen at extreme viewing angles.

COMPARISON
The Intex Aqua i-5 has its own share of competitors, in the form of Canvas 2 plus,XOLO Q800, etc. Having said that, let us also tell you that the i-5 is among the best priced phones in the segment. For an amount of 11,990 (even lesser possibly in local markets), you get a lot of bang for your buck, which gives the i-5 an upper hand when the market is concerned.
CONCLUSION
The Intex Aqua i-5 does not bring anything new to the table, but it does come at a great price point. The phone might catch the fancy of people looking to buy a quad core device at a very affordable price point. The 5 inch screen might suit the requirement of today’s youth, and the quad core processor is bound to generate a lot of interest.
The phone is currently available for 11,990 INR, and is being sold locally and via online stores.
